Pharmacies selling ”Japanese cold medicine” containing narcotic ingredients busted in Busan, South Korea
A pharmacy in Busan, South Korea, was arrested for illegally selling Japanese cold medicines containing narcotic ingredients, and non-standard herbal medicines that had expired and no labeling such as the manufacturing form, country of origin, or warnings.
On the 4th, the Busan Special Judicial Police Division announced that they had conducted a large number of investigations targeting pharmaceutical and herbal medicine dealers and 72 other locations in Busan from February 26 to May 31.
The government announced that it had uncovered 18 cases of illegal activities as a result of cracking down on violations of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law in 2018. Of these, 9 cases involved illegal imports of Japanese general cold medicines that were not officially approved for import.
The cold medicine was found to contain 8.34 milligrams of the narcotic ingredient dihydrocodeine, and is classified as a specialty drug in Korea.
If a child takes an overdose of a compound drug containing this ingredient, it may cause hallucinations and agitation, and the drug may be used by people aged 12 and over.
The drugs cannot be administered to children under the age of 18 or pregnant women, and cannot be purchased without a doctor's prescription. The illegal acts uncovered by the Special Judicial Police this time were: ▲ Unlicensed drug sales (2 cases) ▲ Unregulated drug sales (1 case)
▲Sale of expired herbal medicines (3 cases) ▲Sale of expired herbal medicines (2 cases) ▲Storage of potentially contaminated food and medicines in a dedicated medicine storage facility (2 cases) ▲Illegal import of foreign medicines without import permission
By type of business, four pharmacies, four pharmaceutical wholesalers, one herbal medicine company, and nine imported pharmaceutical stores were busted.
The Special Judicial Police plans to file criminal charges against the 18 violating businesses and then refer them to the prosecution.
The official said, "In order to fundamentally block the inflow of this drug, we ask the city to not only share information on domestic distribution routes, but also to strengthen customs inspections on peddling and special deliveries through customs."
I got it.
