North Korea removes ”East Sea Line railway tracks”...cutting off ”North-South connection route”
Following the severance of the inter-Korean roads, North Korea appears to be removing the North Korean section of the East Sea Line railway that runs from South Korea to Mount Kumgang.
On the 5th, South Korea's National Intelligence Service said, "Recently, there has been some removal of material from the Donghae Line tracks," and "We are closely monitoring related developments."
The North Korean section of the Donghae Line railway runs up to Mount Kumgang Youth Station, north of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL).
At the June 15, 2000 summit, the two Koreas agreed to reconstruct the Gyeongui Line and Donghae Line, which had been severed due to the division of the country.
The restoration of the Donghae Line will re-form and connect the section from Goseong's Jejin Station on the South Korean side to Kumgangsan Youth Station, and the South Korean side will be in charge of construction on the North Korean side.
As a result, on May 17, 2007, a test run of the North-South Railway through the MDL was conducted for the first time in half a century, but the connecting section of the North-South Railway was not in regular operation.
Subsequently, at the 2018 inter-Korean summit, the two Koreas again agreed to reconnect and modernize the railways, but no substantial progress was made.
"North Korea is now removing the tracks of the East Sea Line," he said, referring to the fact that at the end of last year North Korea had declared inter-Korean relations to be "not a state of kindred but a state of hostile warfare."
The definition of "relationship with the country" is seen as an indication of the intention to "physically cut off the connecting route between the North and the South."
