When asked why, Taecyeon once said, "I received a lot of love while promoting, and I felt that one of the things I had to protect was my duty."
In the South Korean military, the military service obligation continues even after discharge. After discharge, you serve in the "reserve" for eight years, and then in the "civil defense" until you reach the age of 40.
They are required to undergo regular training as "Civil Defense Forces."
