Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology ranks 4th in the world for ”number of cited papers per professor” in QS world rankings - Korean media

Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) ranked 4th in the world and 1st in Korea in terms of number of paper citations per professor in the 2025 QS World University Rankings.
GIST has been Korea's top for 17 consecutive years since it first appeared on the rankings in 2008. It also maintains its position between 2nd and 6th in the world rankings.
In the "number of citations per professor" announced this time, Korean science and technology universities, including GIST, were highly rated, ranking within the top 40 in the world.
The "number of citations per professor" in 2024 is calculated by counting the number of citations from 2018 to 2023 for papers published at the university in question between 2018 and 2022.
In particular, unlike items such as "reputation within the academic community," which are subjective responses, this indicator calculates research achievements and the influence they have on other research as objective data.
This can be said to be a highly reliable evaluation item. GIST supports joint research with world-leading science and technology research institutes such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), enabling researchers from a wide range of fields to work together.
