「一方的な暴行ではない」教頭暴行小学生の保護者が反論=韓国
”It was not a one-sided assault” - Parent of elementary school student who assaulted vice principal refutes = South Korea
Recently, a student from Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, South Korea, hit the vice principal on the cheek and called him names, sparking a debate over the infringement of teachers' power.
The parents of the elementary school student argued that this was not assault, but the union refuted the claim. The union maintains that the violation of children's educational rights cannot be justified.
On the 7th, Jeong Jae-seok, chairman of the North Jeolla Provincial Teachers Union, posted on his Facebook page,
"Mom! The teacher did not hit the child," the child's mother wrote, along with a screenshot of an interview she gave to the media.
Chairman Jung said, "The teacher told the student, 'If this is unfair, then you should hit him too,' and 'You should leave.'"
"There is no justification for punching the vice principal on the cheek several times, biting his wrist, spitting in his face, slapping the teacher, infringing on educational activities, hitting other children, and violating the learning rights of other children," he said.
In the SBS press photo that Chairman Chung shared, the parent of the child in question said, "The teacher hit him," and added, "If you're upset with him, you should hit him too," and "You should get out."
The parent said, "As a parent, it's sad, but it may reveal the truth," and added, "I can't believe that my child hit the teacher unilaterally.
The school also had problems and the child displayed problematic behavior. However, the school claimed that the child had immediately skipped classes without permission and had verbally abused and physically assaulted teachers after transferring to the school.
In a statement released on the 6th of this month, the North Jeolla Provincial Teachers' Union said, "The student in question frequently arrived late and left school early without permission, and engaged in violence and abuse against teachers and students at school.
"The school provided guidance to the parents in accordance with the child separation measures and the notification on life guidance when separation is not implemented, but in the process, the children were assaulted and insulted, and the parents threatened to report child abuse.
Chairman Jung said, "What children with emotional and behavioral crises need is not 'attending school,' but 'treatment.' Forcing them to transfer to another school is not a fundamental solution."
"At the integrated case meeting by the dedicated team, the parents' child abuse (neglect) is not acknowledged, and the child is not receiving the treatment he or she needs," she said.
