SEVENTEEN appointed as UNESCO Youth Goodwill Ambassador... First K-Pop artist

Boy group SEVENTEEN have been appointed as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth.

　On the 11th, their agency PLEDIS Entertainment announced that ‘SEVENTEEN’ will be appointed as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth. SEVENTEEN is the first K-pop artist to be appointed as an official UNESCO goodwill ambassador. This is also the first time that UNESCO has appointed a youth goodwill ambassador, as their influence has been recognised by the international community since their debut in 2015, as they have constantly communicated with young people around the world by incorporating their personal growth into their music.

　UNESCO appoints world-renowned figures in various fields of society as goodwill ambassadors. The aim is to increase the interest and participation of people all over the world in UNESCO's principles and activities. UNESCO has appointed world-renowned vocalist and conductor Placido Domingo, Real Madrid footballer Vinicius Junior and Spanish actress Rossi de Palma as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors.

　SEVENTEEN sang about the dreams and hopes they experienced in their ‘youth’ and propagated a positive message of ‘instead of being pessimistic and frustrated, let's win together without being tired’. They have also practised diverse sharing and helped to spread good influence.

SEVENTEEN will participate in the appointment ceremony of youth ambassadors at 10am on 26 June (5pm CET) at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France. On the same day, the members will meet UNESCO Secretary-General Audrey Azoulay, exchange pleasantries and reveal their specific activity plans and impressions through their goodwill ambassador acceptance speeches.

　UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay said, ‘’SEVENTEEN' and UNESCO are in agreement on empowering youth to lead change and solve the problems of our time. SEVENTEEN‘ has also been sharing inspiration and support to the youth of the world with their music and positive energy,’ and added "We hoped that our partnership would become even more advanced following several successful collaborations." on the 26th June, the members of ‘SEVENTEEN’ will become UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors, and will be honoured with the title of ‘UNESCO Ambassadors of Goodwill’. We gladly welcome the members of SEVENTEEN".
