Public agency employee throws cup at cafe manager saying ”drink tastes strange” (South Korea)
Police have launched an investigation after a public servant at a cafe in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, threw a cup after complaining that the drink tasted strange.
According to police on the 10th, at around 5:40 pm on the 9th, a man in his 40s threw a drinking cup at the cafe owner and kiosk at a cafe in Nogyang-dong, Uijeongbu.
The cafe owner, Mr. A, said that the drink thrown by the man had contaminated the kiosk, POS equipment, and the area around the tables, and he had to suspend business.
On the day that this happened to Mr. A, he shared the details of the situation in an online community for self-employed people. He said, "(A male customer) told me that my carbonated drink tasted strange. I was worried about how it was made.
"There was no problem, but the customer was drunk so we made him another drink," he said, adding, "He dropped his cigarette butt into the window where the drinks were being handed over and started swearing and saying that the drink was undrinkable.
He also spat smoke into the store," he said. "When I protested, asking if throwing drinks and spat out cigarette smoke was the right thing to do, he started calling me names again," he said.
"I told them I had a problem and that I would put them out of business," he said. The man was reportedly an employee of the Uijeongbu Metropolitan City Corporation. After the argument, the man reportedly went to the cafe to apologize.
Meanwhile, police are accepting the case as an assault offense and are planning to investigate whether there are any criminal charges.
