South Korean prosecutors seek 15-year prison sentence for DJ Yesung, who killed a victim in a hit-and-run drunk driving incident
South Korean prosecutors have requested a 15-year prison sentence for DJ Yesung, who caused a fatal drunk driving accident. On the 11th, Seoul Central District Court Criminal 25 Exclusive reported that he was charged with dangerous driving resulting in death under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
The final hearing for DJ Yesung, who was put on trial, was held. On the same day, the prosecution sought a 15-year prison sentence for DJ Yesung. The prosecution stated, "Despite the result of violating a life, he did not blame the victim.
"The crime is extremely serious, including shifting responsibility, and there is a high possibility of criticism," the court said, adding that, taking into consideration the serious suffering of the victim, it requested that the car be confiscated in addition to the 15-year prison sentence.
In response to this, DJ Yesung said in his final statement, "At the time, there were no performance dates, so it was interfering with my life."
He expressed remorse, saying, "I was unable to refuse alcohol at an event I attended in order to make a living, and did something that I should never have done."
DJ Yesung has repeatedly expressed remorse, and his defense team has also admitted to the facts of the charges, stating,
If the victim had used his blinker, the accident could have been prevented.
DJ Yesung was involved in a drunk driving hit-and-run incident in Seoul. While driving a Mercedes, DJ Yesung hit a delivery man on a motorcycle, and the delivery man died on the spot.
He crossed the center line, hit another vehicle and fled the scene, after which he was arrested. At the time, DJ Yesung's blood alcohol level was at a level that would have caused his driver's license to be revoked, and he rescued the victim immediately after the accident.
Rather than take action, he simply stayed put while holding his dog, drawing criticism. DJ Yesung's defense was that he didn't even acknowledge that he had hit the victim, sparking outrage among the public.
Meanwhile, DJ Yesung's first trial hearing is scheduled to be held on the 9th of next month.
