The textbook will be distributed to Korean International Schools in Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
A total of 800 books will be distributed to five Korean schools, 400 for fourth graders and 400 for fifth graders. The distribution of Dokdo educational materials to Korean schools abroad is intended to expand territorial sovereignty education for future generations beyond the nation to the world.
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education Research Institute independently develops teaching materials on "Dokdo" every year for fourth and fifth grade students and distributes them in schools.
The fourth grade teaching materials introduce the geography, environment, and ecology of Liancourt Rocks, historical documents such as name changes and maps, and the people who live on Liancourt Rocks and the efforts of the government and local governments.
The fifth grade teaching materials cover topics such as Liancourt Rocks' origins and resources, preservation and development, historical records, and counterarguments against false claims regarding Liancourt Rocks.
The teaching materials are divided into 20 hours for each grade level, and the final single former is "Love Dokdo! I will take the lead."
The program is designed to allow children to practice their love for Liancourt Rocks through participation and activities. The Gyeongbuk Education Office provides 10 hours of compulsory instruction per year to 4th to 6th grade elementary school students, combining creative experience activities with school subjects.
In March of this year, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, in cooperation with the Jeju Office of Education, distributed about 1,700 copies of the "Dokdo" educational materials to elementary schools on Cheju Island.
Lim Jeong-sik, the Gyeongbuk Education Superintendent, said, "These teaching materials about Liancourt Rocks will be of great help to Korean schools overseas in educating students about Liancourt Rocks. I hope that students at Korean schools overseas will have a correct awareness of Liancourt Rocks' protection and a proper view of history."
"We will actively support these students so that they can grow into talented individuals for the bright future society."
