South Korean men's basketball player Heo Eun ”former girlfriend's blackmail lawsuit”
South Korean professional basketball player Heo Eun (31, KCC) revealed the facts of the police complaint, saying, "After I broke up with my ex-girlfriend, I suffered from financial demands and threats for three years."
On the afternoon of the 26th, Heo wrote on social media, "First of all, I'm very sorry to have caused concern to my fans with this news. I'm very sorry to all the fans who have supported me up until now.
I know how shocked you must have been, and I feel truly sorry," he said. He continued, "I have suffered for a long time, and I can no longer bear it, so I have decided to take this decision to hold you legally responsible.
"We have decided to make a decision," he said, adding, "We plan to actively cooperate with the police investigation so that the perpetrators are punished through judicial procedures."
At the same time, he said, "If you continue to believe in me and wait for me, I will be able to show you a more mature side of myself.
Kim Dong Hee-young, the lawyer who previously represented Heo, was arrested on charges of attempted blackmail, intimidation, and violation of the Stalking Punishment Act at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul on the same day.
Regarding the background of the lawsuit, Attorney Kim said, "Since the end of May 2021, A has been exposing Heo's private life to the media, social media, and his agency.
"She threatened to expose the information to the media and other people and demanded 300 million won (approximately 34.55 million yen) from Mr. Heo," the company said. In May 2021, when Ms. A became pregnant with Mr. Heo, she demanded that they "get married before the birth.
She claimed that when Heo said, "I want to think about marriage a little more," he suddenly threatened her. In the end, Ms. A had an abortion and continued to meet and break up with Mr. Heo for three years.
Heo's side released the contents of the KakaoTalk messages sent by A, which contained threatening messages, and claimed that A had continued to enter Heo's residence against her will.
They also requested the police to investigate A's suspected violation of the Illegal Drugs Control Act and A's acquaintance B, who is suspected of conspiracy.
Heo is the son of "Basketball President" Heo Jae, the former head coach of the Korean national men's basketball team.
He is currently active as a player, leading his team, Busan KCC, to first place in the 2023-2024 professional basketball championship.
