On the 6th of this month, Son Ye-jin was selected as the protagonist of the 'Actor Special Exhibition' at the 28th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) and held a talk show.
On that day, she said, "I was offered the opportunity to hold a special exhibition at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, but I actually thought, 'Can I do that? Can I be of that kind of help? I thought that as an actor, everyone wants to hold a special exhibition at least once, so I was happy to take part in it."
She continued "I had a big personal event. Getting married, having a baby, raising children... two years may be a short time, but it was the biggest change in my life. It was two years that I forgot about my profession as an actor and spent it feeling like 'I am a mother'," she added.
She added: "Like when I started acting, I wanted to do it properly, but I didn't have any information or someone to help me, so I had to figure everything out on my own, and it was the same with my mother. You are all very good at playing mothers, but were you all good at something as difficult as this without even thinking about it? I think it was a hardship so great that I had to cut myself to the bone to really raise a child with all my heart and soul."
She then added, "These two years have been a huge change for me, and it seems to have brought me even greater happiness than hardship". I wanted to make the most of it as an actor, and in many ways, two years was a very important time".
In addition, "I always had someone next to me helping me, and the 20 years of living as an actor had always been something I was used to, but when I had a family and a child who was even more important than me, I had to give myself up. They have to think only of themselves within themselves, so there is a lot of selfishness. From now on, I would have to say that my horizons have widened a little. I think my feelings have become weaker."
On why she decided to marry her husband Hyun Bin, Son Ye-jin said "A lot of people fall in love and marry actors, but I've never been the type to like it. But the thing about fate..." she blurted out, "All the time people say we are alike. I started to wonder if our impressions are similar because I'm constantly looking at them, I've acted with them in two films and they seem to be quite attracted to me as a person," she confessed, capturing their gaze.
Finally adding "He has the style of a samurai (i.e. a person of culture and status) in the olden days. He was very bright and rational, not someone who could take sarcasm well or capture it and turn it into an enemy, but a nonchalant figure", and praised him for being "good-looking, tall and reliable".
