South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol departed for the United States on the 8th to visit the Indo-Pacific Command and attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit.
First Lady Mu Kun-hee will board the first Air Force plane at Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, and will then fly to Honolulu, Hawaii for two days before attending the NATO summit.
He will visit the National Cemetery of the Pacific, where the soldiers who died in the war are buried, lay flowers, and participate in a dinner with the Korean community in Hawaii. On the morning of the 9th, he will visit the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and receive military instructions from the commander.
After receiving a security briefing, President Yoon is scheduled to give a speech of encouragement to the officers and soldiers at the headquarters. Afterwards, President Yoon will attend the 2024 Defense and Security Summit to be held in Washington, D.C. from the 10th to the 11th.
President Yoon will attend the NATO Summit. He is the first South Korean president to attend the NATO summit three years in a row.
President Yoon hopes that this summit will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen the relationship of trust with the leaders of friendly countries.
In addition, relay bilateral talks will be held to discuss ways to ensure the security and economic interests of the Republic of Korea.
