An acquaintance who defrauded Lee Min Woo of the group "SHINHWA" of 2.6 billion won (about 297 million yen) by pretending to be innocent of sexual harassment charges was sentenced to prison in the second trial.
On the 9th, the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 3 (Chief Judges Lee Chang-hyun, Nam Ki-jeong, and Yoo Jae-min) indicted the suspects on charges of violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Certain Economic Crimes (fraud) and other offenses.
The court sentenced the writer, Mr. A, to nine years in prison, the same as in the first trial. The court also upheld the first trial's compensation order that he must return 2.6 billion won.
The court found Mr. A guilty of approaching Lee Min Woo, defrauding her of money, and gaslighting her.
The court ruled, "The victim stated that (Mr. A) was the only person who could help her at the time, and it appears that she was emotionally dependent on Mr. A," and "It was clear that she was quite psychologically withdrawn.
In 2019, after media reports emerged that Lee Min Woo had been indicted on charges of sexual harassment against two women, A approached him and was accused of extorting money from him.
Previously, Lee Min Woo shocked the public by revealing that he had been scammed out of 2.6 billion won by an acquaintance of 20 years.
