”Bridge collapsed due to heavy rain” - A photo of a bridge collapsed in South Korea goes viral... Police even restrict traffic, causing a commotion
A photo of a bridge collapsing due to heavy rain was spread, causing a commotion and leading to police restricting traffic. On the 10th, Geochang County in Gyeongnam issued a flood warning.
That morning, photos were posted on social media showing what appeared to be a collapsed section of Geochang Bridge, with the bridge's road cracked and tilted, and parts of the town submerged in water.
As this photo spread, the police were repeatedly notified that "Geochang Bridge seems to have collapsed due to the overnight rain." As a result, about 20 police officers were mobilized.
The bridge was closed for about two hours from 9:00 a.m. on the 2nd. However, the police and the county office conducted an emergency safety inspection and found that there was no damage on the bridge and it was in good condition.
It was discovered that the photo was first circulated in a KakaoTalk group chat room in which a Geochang County council member participated. A resident posted the photo in the chat room.
As a result of this incident, dozens of police and county office staff were mobilized to regulate traffic and conduct safety inspections, and a considerable number of residents were inconvenienced by the traffic restrictions.
Geochang County has determined that the incident is serious enough to cause social unrest and is considering asking the police to investigate.
