Filipino boy with heart disease undergoes surgery in Korea...JYP pays all surgery expenses
A 7-year-old boy from the Philippines with congenital heart disease has been given a new lease of life thanks to advanced medical care in Korea. On the 16th, Severance Hospital, affiliated with Yonsei University Hospital, announced that a 7-year-old boy with congenital heart disease, Tetralogy of Fallot (TFR), had been admitted to hospital.
Kim Avig-Rocero, a boy diagnosed with the etralogy of Fallot
ROSELLO)'s surgery will be a success and all expenses will be covered by JYP Entertainment.
Tetralogy of Fallot is a condition characterized by a defect between the two ventricles in the heart, a narrowing of the pulmonary artery that connects the heart to the lungs, aortic overriding on the ventricular septum, and right ventricular hypertrophy.
It is a serious disease with four symptoms. Because blood is not supplied to the lungs normally, there is a lack of oxygen in the blood, which causes the face and lips to turn pale (cyanosis), and even the slightest activity can worsen the condition.
It is difficult for Kim to carry out normal physical activities, and in severe cases, he may suffer cardiac arrest or brain damage. According to the hospital, Kim often crouches down and curls up even while he is active.
This was an instinctive action to pump blood to the heart. Kim had difficulty receiving treatment due to poor medical conditions and financial difficulties in the Philippines.
However, the situation changed when he met a former member of the missionary team, Mr. A, who is a cardiovascular surgeon and graduated from Yonsei University School of Medicine. After examining Kim during his medical missionary work in the area, Mr. A contacted the hospital.
Kim was brought to South Korea as part of the Global Severance Global Charity Program, which was established in 2011 to help patients in underserved countries.
The surgery, conducted by Professor Shin Yuri, was complicated, including repairing the ventricular septal defect and dilating the pulmonary artery, but Kim recovered from intensive care just one day after the surgery.
He recovered so quickly that he was transferred from the treatment room to a general ward. He was then discharged from the hospital and returned to his home country. All of Kim's surgery expenses were covered by JYP Entertainment.
In April of this year, the company donated 500 million won (approximately 57 million yen) to Yonsei University Medical Center to be used to treat pediatric and adolescent patients in need of medical assistance both at home and abroad.
