Non-alcoholic beer market expected to expand as sales begin in restaurants in South Korea
In recent years, sales of non-alcoholic beer have increased in Korea due to growing interest in health.
The amendment to the enforcement order of the Liquor License Law, which allows alcoholic beverages to be served together with alcoholic beverages, was passed. Until now, alcohol wholesalers were only allowed to distribute alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of 1% or more to restaurants.
Since the amendment was passed, restaurants and entertainment venues have also started offering non-alcoholic drinks. According to a large supermarket in South Korea, 100% of beer sales are non-alcoholic.
The share of alcoholic beer accounted for 3% as of July 15. This represents a slight increase from the 2% level each month since May in 2023.
The industry is expected to increase sales of non-alcoholic beer in order to expand the market.
In line with the revised Enforcement Order, OB Beer has launched a 330ml bottled product of its industry-first non-alcoholic beverage "Cass 0.0" for restaurants.
"We started selling non-alcoholic beer to restaurants in June, but in many cases not only consumers but even restaurant owners are unaware of this fact. For this reason, we plan to strengthen our public relations efforts.
