A woman in her 20s who murdered her father with a deadly weapon receives 15 years in prison in South Korea
On the 18th, the 12th Criminal Division of the Ulsan District Court in South Korea (Judge Kim Jeong-hyuk) announced that it had sentenced a man in his 20s, Mr. A, who was indicted on charges of murdering a relative, to 15 years in prison.
The court also ordered that he be fitted with an electronic location tracking device for 10 years. Mr. A was on trial for allegedly stabbing his father, Mr. B (in his 60s), multiple times with a weapon and killing him at their home in Ulsan in January of this year.
On the day of the incident, she was found to have broken something and been scolded by Mr. B, leading to her becoming enraged and committing the crime. When her mother, who was with her at home, tried to stop her and report the incident, she took her cell phone and threatened her.
During the investigation, Mr. A stated, "This world is fake and my father is fake too, so I committed the crime." The investigation revealed that Mr. A, who had been suffering from an illness, committed the crime despite his severe symptoms.
The court said, "The crime of killing a direct lineal ascendant is immoral and has antisocial characteristics, and is punished more severely than ordinary murder under the Criminal Code."
The nature of the crime is extremely serious, and the bereaved families are experiencing extreme mental anguish." However, the court said, "The defendant admitted to the crime and regretted his mistake, and at the time of the crime, he was suffering from mental illness and other factors.
"We took into consideration the fact that he was in a frail state," he said in explaining the sentence.
