On the 23rd, the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's Female Youth Crime Investigation Division announced that a suspected child abuse case had been filed under the Child Welfare Act.
The prosecution said that a female teacher in her 20s, Ms. A, had been referred to the prosecution. Between January and March of this year, Ms. A had molested two children, including a three-year-old boy with a brain tumor, 26 times at a nursery school in Michuhol-gu, Incheon.
According to security camera footage released by YTN on the same day, Mr. A was trying to give his child cold medicine, and when the child turned his head and spilled the medicine, he used a wet tissue to get the medicine out.
He picked up a cigarette and hit the child in the face, then pretended to wipe his face while repeatedly hitting him hard in the face, causing the child to fall backwards and start crying.
After that, Mr. A put the child to bed and gave him medicine, then slapped the child again in the face as he was wiping away tears.
The repeated assaults left bright red marks on the child's face. Suspicious of this, the parents checked the security camera footage from the daycare center, which revealed Mr. A's abuse.
However, when the police launched an investigation and analyzed four months' worth of security camera footage, they discovered that Mr. A had been abusing another child.
Mr. A and the victim hit and pinched other girls and forced them to eat food.
During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that he had been "stressed out from childcare" and partially admitted to the allegations.
However, the director of the nursery school was not found responsible for poor management and supervision, and no charges were brought against him.
