水原駅発「KTX」25年に開通へ、釜山・光州・木浦への運行時間を大幅短縮=韓国
”KTX” from Suwon Station to open in 2025, significantly reducing travel times to Busan, Gwangju and Mokpo (South Korea)
According to the city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province, the Korea Railroad Corporation will be investing 2 trillion yen in 148 new railway projects, including the Suwon Nuclear Power Plant and Incheon KTX Direct Link Project, during the second half of 2024.
The project will invest 225.8 billion won (approximately 250.16 billion yen). The Suwon Nuclear Power Plant KTX Direct Link Project will connect Seojeong-ri Station and Jije Station in Gyeonggi Province, a 9.99 km-long railway line.
The project involves constructing a railway line and making Suwon Station the starting point for the high-speed train "KTX." The aim is to open the line in the second half of 2025. The total project cost is 349.9 billion won (approximately 44.344 billion yen).
Currently, the KTX from Busan departs four times a day on weekdays, but the number of KTX trains from Suwon will increase to 12 times a day.
The KTX Honam line to Mokpo will operate six times a day. Meanwhile, the travel time to Busan will be reduced from the current 2 hours 40 minutes to 2 hours 16 minutes. In addition, the travel time to Gwangju Station will be reduced from 2 hours 40 minutes to 2 hours 16 minutes.
The Saemaul train took 3 hours 10 to 30 minutes, but the KTX took 1 hour 35 minutes. The Saemaul train took 3 hours 50 to 4 hours to get to Mokpo Station, but the KTX took 2 hours.
Suwon City Mayor Lee Jaejung said, "We will actively cooperate with the Korea Railroad Corporation so that the Suwon KTX project can open at the appropriate time."
