”There was a bang from the air conditioner”... 77 people evacuated after apartment fire in South Korea

A fire broke out at an apartment in Gimhae, Gyeongnam, forcing residents to evacuate. According to the Gyeongnam Fire and Rescue Department on the 29th, a fire broke out at an apartment in Gimhae at around 8:17 pm yesterday.
The fire broke out on the 10th floor of the building and was put out after 20 minutes. When firefighters arrived on the scene, smoke was filling the interior and sprinklers were activated. Suppression teams remained by the air conditioning unit.
The fire was put out and the windows were opened to let the smoke out. 77 residents were evacuated due to the fire, 12 of whom were treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Damage to property was also reported. The caller was a junior high school student who had seen smoke inside his home, and after calling the fire department, he was confirmed to have evacuated outside.
The junior high school student said, "I heard a bang and black smoke coming out from under the air conditioner in the living room.
The air conditioner was repaired about a week ago." Fire department officials said they estimated that the fire started in the air conditioner in the living room after investigating the scene, and will continue to investigate the cause of the fire through additional joint investigations.
The cause of the disaster will be investigated.
