Following former President Donald Trump's speech at the 2024 Bitcoin Conference, opinions have been raised in Hong Kong that Bitcoin should be made into a "strategic asset," News1 reported.
Hong Kong Legislative Council Member Johnny Ng said through X (formerly Twitter) that "It is worth considering making Bitcoin an official strategic asset for the country and region," and "As long as regulations are followed,
"If we can protect our assets, we can consider ways to include Bitcoin in Hong Kong's strategic reserve assets," he said. To this end, we will continue to cooperate with stakeholders in the blockchain and web industries.
"Hong Kong will accelerate the development of the Web3 ecosystem and attract global talent and capital to promote the development of the industry," he added.
Meanwhile, former President Trump attended the 2024 Bitcoin Conference in Nashville on the 27th and stated that he would "make the United States the cryptocurrency capital of the world."
This is the first time that a presidential figure has attended a Bitcoin event.
