National investigation calling for truthful investigation into increase in medical school enrollment... More than 50,000 people agree to national petition = South Korea
More than 50,000 citizens have signed a petition by medical school professors calling for a national investigation to uncover the truth behind the South Korean government's policy to increase medical school enrollment by 2,000 people.
On the 29th, the National Council of Medical School Professors (Zenikyokyo) agreed to a petition calling for a national investigation into the policy to increase medical school enrollment by 2,000.
The number of people who have agreed to the proposal has exceeded 50,000, and the proposal will be referred to the relevant standing committee,” the association said.
If the national petition reaches 50,000 consents within 30 days of its publication on the website, it will be forwarded to the relevant standing committee of the National Assembly.
Through a national policy survey, the All Japan Medical Education Association conducted a survey on the decision-making process for increasing the number of medical school admissions, the allocation process for medical school admissions, and the number of doctors who were 15,000.
The scientific reality of the deficiencies, the judicial process for medical residents, the policy prohibiting medical students from taking time off, attempts to violate the independence of the Korea Medical Education Assessment Service, the current situation regarding the preparation of an educational environment and securing related budgets in response to the increase in the number of medical school students.
Furthermore, they are demanding that the government's measures regarding the non-return of medical residents and medical students, as well as the government's measures to establish a medical policy council, be investigated.
The All Japan Medical Education Association said, "This situation has been caused by irresponsible government policy, and the national political chaos and waste of national resources should be resolved by the Diet.
"We must step in and put a stop to this. We must thoroughly investigate the governance issues surrounding medical policy decision-making, which are the root cause of this situation, and provide a clue to resolving the situation."
He continued, "The government must face the reality of the dire situation regarding the health and medical education of the Korean people, and take a proactive stance to resolve the situation even now. We must prevent an irreversible catastrophe."
To prevent this, I want the government to cancel the increase in staff even now and hold genuine parliamentary dialogue."
