Driver of ”City Hall Station wrong-way driving accident” repeats only ”I'm sorry” = Korea

Cha (68), the driver of the vehicle involved in the wrong-way accident at City Hall Station, appeared at Seoul Central District Court today.
When asked about the basis for his claim of sudden acceleration and the accelerator marks left on the driver's shoes that the police cited as evidence of the driver's negligence, he repeatedly said, "I'm sorry."
The pre-arrest hearing (warrant review) to decide whether to arrest Cha will be held this morning under the presiding judge in charge of the warrant, Kim Seok-beom.
Cha is accused of driving a car the wrong way and running onto the sidewalk near City Hall Station in Jung-gu, Seoul, at 9 p.m. on the 1st of this month, resulting in the deaths of nine people.
Seven people, including Cha and his wife, were injured. Cha claims that the accident was caused by a sudden acceleration due to a vehicle defect, but the National Forensic Service determined that the accident was most likely caused by driver negligence.
Considering the seriousness of the crime, the police applied for an arrest warrant to the prosecutor's office on the 24th.
