Korea Communications Commission passes resolution to appoint directors for KBS and BCSC on day Chairman Lee takes office
The Korea Communications Commission held a general meeting at the Gwacheon Government Complex on the afternoon of the 31st and passed a resolution to recommend and appoint directors for the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Council, a major shareholder of KBS and MBC. The meeting took place just 10 hours after Chairperson Lee Jin-sook and Standing Committee Member Kim Tae-kyu were appointed. Chairperson Lee and Standing Committee Member Kim attended the meeting. The agenda was personnel-related.
To avoid this, the meeting was held behind closed doors for around two hours, from 5pm to 7pm, with a further two hours required for the results to be announced.
The KBS board of directors includes current director Kwon Seung-beom and former director of Korea Policy Broadcasting.
The director of the institute, Seo Ki-seok, current chairman, Lee Gon, vice president of Women's Newspaper Company, lawyer Lee In-cheol, Heo Yeop, vice chairman of the Film and Media Rating Committee, and Hwang Sun-woo, former standing member of the Broadcasting and Communications Review Committee, are among the many people who have been involved.
The seven directors of KBS are recommended by the Korea Communications Commission and appointed by the president. Meanwhile, the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Council, which is a major shareholder of MBC, lists Kim Dong Ryul, Sung Kyun, and Kim Il Sung-kyun as directors.

In the vote that day, only directors recommended by the ruling party were selected for both KBS and the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Council.
The opposition parties had indicated that they would not apply for the public broadcasting board of directors this time.
The opposition party has also proposed to appoint new members to the board of directors of the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, but the opposition party has not yet approved the proposal.
The motion to recuse himself from the committee was rejected, and Kim was elected vice-chairman for a term until May 3, 2026.
