”Samurai sword murder case” suspect: ”I have no regrets” = Korea
Suspect Baek (37), who is suspected of killing his neighbor with a Japanese sword at an apartment complex in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, attended a pre-arrest hearing (substantive warrant review) on the 1st.
Suspect Baek attended the warrant review at the Western District Court in Seoul at around 9:50 a.m. today, and in response to a question from reporters asking if he felt remorseful toward the victim, he replied, "Yes."
When asked if he committed the crime because he thought he was being followed, Baek replied, "Yes." When asked why he refused to take a drug test, he said, "I didn't do it because I was a secret spy.
In response to questions such as "Do you normally carry a sword around with you?" and "Is it true that there was discord at work?", he replied, "No."
According to police, Baek is accused of stabbing a 75cm-long knife in front of the main gate of an apartment building in Eunpyeong-gu at around 11:30 pm on the 29th of last month.
He is suspected of wielding a Japanese sword and killing a man (43) who lived in the same housing complex. The National Forensic Service determined that the cause of death of the victim was "multiple stab wounds (wounds caused by a murder weapon) all over the body."
The police made an oral opinion stating that the cause of death was believed to be "death by pulmonary circulation." Suspect Baek cut the victim's shoulder and other parts of his body as he went outside to smoke a cigarette, and the victim went to the nearby apartment management office and reported the incident.
After the victim was asked to leave, he brandished the weapon several times. The victim was taken to the hospital but later died. During the police investigation, Baek said, "I was under the impression that the victim was a spy who was constantly following me.
However, the police determined that Baek had only met the victim while out for a walk and that they had no personal acquaintance.
He reportedly began exhibiting extreme behavior at apartment complexes, such as raising his voice and yelling abusive language, which led to police being called in.
