Ice cream is unusually popular during the rainy season in South Korea, possibly due to prolonged humid weather

The rainy season in 2024 is expected to arrive earlier than usual and last longer than usual. In the frozen sweets industry, there has never been a year in which the rainy season lasted for more than 50 days.
The company was concerned about the slump in sales because it had not been able to increase sales of ice cream in the past. However, the weather in Korea these days is showing different characteristics from past rainy seasons, so the company is considering selling ice cream.
Changes are also being seen in cream consumption trends. In recent years, the rainy season has been expected to start earlier and last longer, and torrential rains are becoming more frequent throughout the summer due to low pressure and unstable atmospheric conditions.
It is believed that the rainy, humid heat and continuous rains have led to an increase in people craving ice cream.
A source in the convenience store industry said, "Due to the rainy season that has continued through July, more people are visiting nearby convenience stores, and food and beverage sales are increasing.
"The demand for frozen foods such as ice cream and ice cubes is particularly high in the hot and humid weather," he said.
