Police have launched an investigation into allegations that a nursery teacher at a nursery school in Daejeon had abused children. The Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency has arrested a nursery teacher from a nursery school in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, on suspicion of violating the Child Welfare Act.
CCTV footage from the daycare center released to JTBC showed the teacher abusing a 19-month-old child during mealtime.
The nursery teacher roughly threw the child to the floor, then woke him up to feed him. While feeding him, the nursery teacher also shoved the whole tray into the child's mouth. The child
The boy had a pained expression on his face and his neck was tilted back. The child's mother said, "At first I thought I was seeing things," and expressed her anger, saying, "He told me it was 'discipline.'"
In another video, a child was not asleep during nap time, and when he smiled and held out his hand, the nursery teacher brushed the child's arm away and pushed the child's body as if to throw him.
In some cases, the child was even covered over with a blanket, even covering the child's face. The child's parents reported the abuse to the police and the ward office after checking the CCTV footage in May of this year and learning of the abuse.
So far, three children are believed to have been victimized, and police are investigating whether there are any additional victims or perpetrators.
According to an on-site investigation by the Yuseong District Office, the daycare center was a home-style daycare center for children aged 1 to 3. At the time the abuse was reported, 13 children and a cook were in the facility.
All 13 children left the daycare center in May when allegations of child abuse emerged, and the center reportedly filed a notice of closure with the Yuseong District Office at the end of last month.
The director of the nursery school reportedly explained to the ward office that he had "no idea" that the abuse had taken place.
