”Five minutes to change clothes” during a table tennis match... Hirano: ”I thought I would regret it” = Korean media
Miu Hirano, who changed her clothes for more than five minutes during the quarterfinals of the women's singles table tennis competition at the Paris Olympics against South Korean player Shin Yu-bin (20), has revealed the reason for the change.
On the 1st (Korean time), Shin won 4-3 (11-41) against Hirano in the women's singles quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics table tennis tournament held at the South Paris Arena in Paris, France.
In the match on the same day, Hirano was pushed back by a set score of 0-3, and left the table for more than five minutes to change clothes and discuss the matter.
At the time, Hirano, who had requested the referee that his clothes were soaked with sweat, left his seat for a while, while Shin had eaten a banana and an energy gel and had an ice pack on his head.
After getting changed, Hirano won the next 4th to 6th sets to tie the score, and in the 7th set, after a fierce deuce-to-deuce match, Shin won.
In response, Korean internet users said that this was not a "trick" to break Shin's winning streak and lead the game.
After the match, Japanese media such as NHK reported an interview with Hirano. Hirano said, "When I was losing 0-3, I thought, 'If I continue like this, I will regret it.'
"I thought, 'I'm going to lose,'" he said, as he changed into his suit. "Usually, I would have lost with a losing streak of 0-3 in the set, but today I was able to get to the point where I could win.
We caught up. I'm disappointed that we couldn't score the last point." Shin said in an interview right after the match, "Hirano came out after changing, but I felt his body stiffening up, and I thought he was going to stop the momentum.
"I felt like I was going to be torn apart," he said, "and after we were tied, I just felt like we had to finish it off."
