The report estimates that by 2023, 210 million users will have traded second-hand fashion items on Pongejanto.
The study analyzed 20 million transactions, including internal data and market trend results from a survey of 800 Korean consumers aged 20 to 59 conducted in January 2024.
According to the report, the secondhand goods trading market, which was worth about 4 trillion won (about 429.8 billion yen) in 2008, is expected to grow to about 43 trillion won (about 4 trillion yen) by 2025.
The market is expected to expand to 620.7 billion yen. In particular, the growth of second-hand brands is remarkable. Over 60% of the survey respondents said they have experience trading second-hand brands.
There is an increasing trend to look for second-hand products instead of second-hand goods. Men aged 35-44 are a new emerging consumer in the second-hand brand market. They tend to prefer products that have been inspected for authenticity.
The A generation was raised with great care by the Millennial generation, who were born in the 1980s and mid-1990s, and they tend to buy things they like quickly and dispose of things they don't need quickly.
