"The unspeakable insults leveled against the President and First Lady of the Republic of Korea and the harsh words uttered based on unfounded, one-sided allegations are an infringement of the human rights of an individual and are a violation of the people's rights.
Presidential Spokesperson Jeong Hye-jeong held a briefing at the Presidential Office in Seoul on the same day and said, "Even the unfortunate death of a public official is unacceptable."
"It is regrettable that the opposition party is using this as a political tool to launch political attacks," he said.
"It was the Democratic Party that oppressed the public service community and caused the death of the deceased, including by making threatening remarks like, 'I'm sorry,'" he said. "If the opposition party feels even a little bit of responsibility, it should not turn the death of the deceased into a political battle.
"We demand an official apology and a convincing explanation from the Democratic Party of Korea. It is unacceptable that the National Assembly, which should be debating the people's livelihood, is spewing such irresponsible words," he added.
"The people will be angry that it has become a liberated zone," he added. On the same day, Jeon said in a parliamentary speech at a hearing of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee that he had recently spoken about the death of a senior official of the Korean Rights Committee.
He also called President Yoon and his wife "murderers." In response to Jeon's remarks, members of the People's Power Legislation and Judiciary Committee, including Rep. Song Seok-jun, said, "This is a case that is not related to the hearing.
The meeting, in which the ruling and opposition parties continued to argue heatedly with the microphones turned off, was adjourned after about 50 minutes.
