On the 19th, Cho Kuk, chairman of the Fatherland Reform Party, publicly requested Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, to embark on amending the law to relax the requirements for negotiating groups within the National Assembly.
At a Supreme Committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the same day, Chairman Cho said, "Chairman Lee needs to become not only the leader of the Democratic Party but also the representative of the entire democratic progressive camp, and to raise the possibility of a change of government.
"To further improve the situation, we definitely need a third negotiating group," he said. The current Diet law stipulates that a political party with 20 or more members can become a negotiating group.
Cho said, "Democratic Party lawmakers have submitted bills to relax the negotiating unit standards several times in the past, and the 22nd National Assembly will work to realize this political reform agenda."
