China sees sharp rise in foreign visitors from January to July as visa exemption policy proves effective - Chinese media

According to the China National Immigration Administration, the number of foreign entrants from January to July this year increased 129.9% year-on-year to a total of 17,254,000. The number of port visas issued increased 182% year-on-year.
In recent years, China has announced various policies to make it easier for foreigners to visit China, such as visa exemption and 144-hour transit visa exemption.
As a result of these measures, the number of foreign visitors to China has increased rapidly. According to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics for 2023, the average daily spending of foreign tourists visiting China is 3,459former (about 70,000 yen).
The bureau said it will continue to optimize policy measures such as visa exemptions to make it easier for foreigners to visit China.
