"I hope that baseball will bring Japan and Korea closer together," he said. Kyoto International was established by Korean residents in Japan for ethnic education in 1944 and was approved by the Japanese government as the Kyoto Korean Central School.
The school was in danger of closing down, but after receiving approval from the Japanese and Korean governments, it reopened in 2004 as Kyoto International Junior and Senior High School.
Meanwhile, Kyoto International High School lost to Kanto Daiichi High School, representing East Tokyo, in extra innings in the 106th Summer Koshien Finals held at Hanshin Koshien Stadium on the same day.
