Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo: ”Japan's discharge of treated water will lead to incitement in 5 to 10 years... Do we really have to play politics like that?” (South Korea)
It has been a year since the Japanese government released treated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo said, "It has been a year since the Fukushima nuclear treated water ghost story was instigated, but now it has been five, ten years since the treated water was released.
Mayor Hong posted the following on his blog, saying, "What is the purpose of inciting the people with ghost stories and causing chaos in the country?"
He added, "Where have all the people gone who incited people to call Seongju melon the 'third melon' and say it's inedible? Do we really have to play politics like that?"
The day before, the Presidential Office and the People's Power Party had called the various suspicions raised by the opposition camp at the time of the release of the treated water "spooky tales and incitement" and demanded an apology from the official.
On the other hand, the Democratic Party of Japan countered, "The impact of the release has yet to be confirmed."
