Actor Kim Seon Ho reflected on the efforts he made for "Tyrant." Kim Seon Ho focused on his inner self rather than showing it on the outside through the Disney+ original series "Tyrant."
He has taken on new acting challenges and broadened his spectrum. Having gained popularity in romantic comedies, he now expresses a cold face that suits the noir genre.
During a recent interview at a cafe in Seoul's Jongno district, Kim Seon Ho said,
Park Hoon expressed his trust in director Jung and said that he wants to be an actor that Jung wants to use in the future. "Tyrant" was released after the last sample of "Tyrant Program" was lost in a delivery accident.
It is a chase action thriller that depicts the story of people who gather to get it for different reasons and end up being chased.
He teamed up with director Park Hoon again through his connection with "The Nobleman." "During the filming of "The Nobleman," I had a lot of fun spending my daily life with the director. We both liked eating and going for walks, so we got along well.
I was happy that he invited me to his work. He is a good director and I felt like he was a close older brother to me, so I was very grateful that he cast me.
I was worried that it would be seen, but it was a needless worry because it was a different character. I believed that the director would make it so that it wouldn't be seen that way." Kim Seon Ho is set in a place where he secretly protects the "Tyrant Program" in the drama.
He played the role of Choi Guk-chan, a planner. He is an elite agent who became the director at the youngest age at the National Intelligence Agency of the Republic of Korea, and handles his work neatly without losing his composure even in critical situations.
The powerful Director Choi is the one who fights alone to protect the "Tyrant Program" that has been run in strict secrecy from outside forces. Kim Seon Ho lost 7kg on her own.
Since he is famous for his skin, the makeup was used to make his skin look dull and dark circles under his eyes. "The script had him looking tired and haggard throughout the film. I thought he was being pushed to his limits, so I didn't want him to look relaxed.
I started dieting because I felt tired. I lost about 6-7kg through exercise and dietary restrictions. On days when I actually looked tired, all I had to do was not put makeup under my eyes.
Above all, Kim Seon Ho has focused on the inner thoughts of the characters, which was a bold move.
Director Jung and my seniors Cha Seung Won and Kim Gang Woo helped me out. “Usually, I imagine how to say my lines in my head, but this time I thought I should focus more on my inner self.
I was scared to play a character who always showed outward appearances, so I was scared to focus on the inner self. I would do my best, but I was also scared of what would happen if I failed.
I couldn't do it, so I mustered up the courage, and I was saved by having the director and seniors there.
I thought it was my role to help the people around me to act smoothly and with a sense of speed. I felt that if I acted too fast, it would look light. I tried to change things up even in the stage production.
I had never done it before, but I felt confident that it might not be so bad if everyone cheered me on," he said, adding, "Usually I would regret it on my way home, but that happened less during "Tyrant."
Kim Seon Ho, who has made women's hearts flutter with his sweet looks in TV series such as "Start-Up" and "Our Little Sisters", has been making waves in the noir genre with "The Nobleman" and "The Tyrant".
But it shone brightly. Furthermore, through director Park Hoon, I had previously achieved my goal of becoming an actor I wanted to work with again. Despite this, I want to continue to hold on to this dream.
"I think the noir genre has made me feel that moments of silence have more power than the moments when an actor speaks. I think it's about how much weight you can feel in a moment of sudden silence," he said.
I learned that I need to study the conversation of silence and acting and improve my skills. That goal is still good. Even now, when filming doesn't go well and I get nervous, that goal helps me to fall.
Not only in terms of acting, but also in terms of attitude, if my small words can improve the set, I think that is also important as an actor.
I think I'll remember and do my best, and I think that'll always be the case (laughs)."
