「暴君」出演のキム・ソンホ…沈黙の力を感じるようになった
Kim Seon Ho, star of ”Tyrant”...I've come to feel the power of silence
Actor Kim Seon Ho reflected on the efforts he made for "Tyrant." Kim Seon Ho focused on his inner self rather than showing it on the outside through the Disney+ original series "Tyrant."
He has taken on new acting challenges and broadened his spectrum. Having gained popularity in romantic comedies, he now expresses a cold face that suits the noir genre.
During a recent interview at a cafe in Seoul's Jongno district, Kim Seon Ho said,
Park Hoon expressed his trust in director Jung and said that he wants to be an actor that Jung wants to use in the future. "Tyrant" was released after the last sample of "Tyrant Program" was lost in a delivery accident.
It is a chase action thriller that depicts the story of people who gather to get it for different reasons and end up being chased.
He teamed up with director Park Hoon again through his connection with "The Nobleman." "During the filming of "The Nobleman," I had a lot of fun spending my daily life with the director. We both liked eating and going for walks, so we got along well.
I was happy that he invited me to his work. He is a good director and I felt like a close older brother, so I was very grateful that he cast me. When we worked together on consecutive productions, our acting became similar.
I was worried that it would look like I was a tyrant, but since it was a different character, it was an unnecessary worry. I believed that the director would make it so that it wouldn't look like that." Kim Seon Ho secretly kept the "Tyrant Program" in the drama.
He played the role of designer Choi Guk-chan. He is an elite agent who became the director at the youngest age in the National Intelligence Agency of the Republic of Korea, and he handles his work neatly without losing his composure even in critical situations.
The powerful Director Choi, who is in charge of the program, is fighting alone to protect the "Tyrant Program," which has been run in strict secrecy, from outside forces. Kim Seon Ho lost 7kg on her own.
Since he is known for his fair skin, the makeup was used to make his skin look dull and dark circles under his eyes. "The script had him looking tired and haggard throughout the film. I thought he was being pushed to his limits, so I didn't want him to look relaxed.
I started dieting because I felt like I didn't have enough weight. I lost about 6-7kg through exercise and dietary restrictions. On days when I actually looked tired, all I had to do was not put makeup under my eyes.
Above all, Kim Seon Ho has focused on the inner thoughts of his characters, which was a bold move.
Director Ng and my seniors Cha Seung Won and Kim Gang Woo helped me out. "Usually I think about how to say my lines, but this time I thought I should focus more on my inner self.
I was scared to focus on my inner self because I had played characters that were outwardly expressed. I would do my best, but I was also scared of what would happen if I failed.
I was able to do it without being able to do it, so I mustered up the courage to do it, and I was helped by the director and my seniors.
I thought it was my role to help the character to perform smoothly and with a sense of speed. I felt that if I performed at a fast pace, it would look light. I tried to change things up so much even in the stage production.
I've never done that before, but if everyone is cheering me on, I feel more confident that it might not be so bad," he said, adding, "Usually I'd regret it on my way home, but that seemed to happen less during 'Tyrant.'
" Kim Seon Ho, who has made women's hearts flutter with his sweet looks in TV series such as "Start-Up" and "Our Little Sisters", has also made a name for himself in the noir genre through "The Nobleman" and "The Tyrant".
She also revealed that she had previously achieved her goal of becoming an actor that she wanted to work with again through director Park Hoon.
"I think the noir genre is what made me realize that moments of silence have more power than the moments when an actor speaks. I realized how much weight a sudden moment of silence can have.
I thought to myself that I need to study the conversation of silence and acting and improve my skills. That goal is still good. Even now, when filming doesn't go well and I get nervous, that goal calms me down.
Not only in terms of acting, but also in terms of attitude, if my small words can improve the set, I think that is also important as an actor. I may waver sometimes, but if I think about that goal,
I think I’m going to put it out there and do my best, and I think it’s always going to be that way (laughs).”
