Defendant Park (28), who was indicted on charges of editing and distributing images, was sentenced to five years in prison. Presiding Judge Kim said, "The content that was photographed, edited, and posted is so horrifying that it is difficult to put into words, not only for the victim but also for the general public.
"The content is very suspicious," he said, "Considering the number of false videos, the nature of the crime is poor." From July 2020 to April this year, Park produced 400 false videos and illegally filmed about 1,700 videos.
He is accused of distributing pornographic videos and other materials. He is an accomplice in the "Seoul University Nth Room" case, in which graduates of Seoul University produced and distributed obscene videos targeting women at the university. Defendant Park is in his 40s and is the main culprit.
He was investigated for contacting a man via online messenger and together they created and distributed obscene videos targeting dozens of women.
Judge Kim said, "There have been at least 11 victims of (illegal footage) over the past five years.
"A total of 419 false videos have been edited and fabricated, with at least 16 victims, including many whose names remain unknown," he said.
"He abused digital editing tools to turn women into tools to satisfy his warped sexual desires. He killed the victims' personalities," Judge Kim said.
"With the development of the internet and mobile phones, the common act of posting photos on social media has become a criminal offense, and victims who learned that their photos had been circulated online are being held responsible.
The shock to those affected is immeasurable."
