Instant glue gets into eyes, risking blindness... 20 emergency rooms in South Korea refuse to use it
As the effects of the "medical upheaval" in South Korea continue, with more than 60% of medical residents (trainees) on strike, a woman who was in danger of going blind after getting instant glue in her eye was refused entry at about 20 emergency rooms.
According to SBS on the 3rd, on the 1st, a woman in her 40s in Gangnam-gu, Seoul mistook instant glue for eye drops and put it in her eye.
The woman called 119, complaining of pain as her upper and lower eyelids were stuck together, and the inside of her eye was red and swollen. The ambulance gave first aid to the woman and took her to a hospital in Seoul.
The ambulance team called hospitals in the capital area, including Gyeonggi-do and Incheon, to request a transfer to their emergency rooms. However, more than 20 hospitals refused to accept the patient.
However, all of the hospitals turned her down. In the end, the ambulance team was unable to find a hospital to take her to, so they told the woman to find a hospital on her own and left.
The medical crisis has dragged on, with many emergency patients being passed around from one hospital to another. On the 4th of last month, a 2-year-old boy was found to be suffering from convulsions.
The girl was transported by ambulance 11 minutes later, but 11 hospitals refused to accept her, and she finally received emergency medical treatment an hour later. The child's convulsions subsided, but she suffered serious brain damage.
He was hit and fell unconscious.
