<Men's Golf> The Shinhan Donghae Open 2024 kicks off, with Asia's best golfers Ryo Ishikawa, Kazutaka Higa, and Song Young Han facing off against each other
The Shinhan Donghae Open 2024 (total prize money of 1.4 billion won/150.78 million yen), hosted by Shinhan Financial Group, will be held for four days from the 5th to the 8th.
The tournament will be held at the Ocean Course of Club 72 Country Club in Youngjong Island, Incheon.
The Shinha Golf Tournament is the longest-running single-sponsored professional golf tournament in Korea.
The "Korean Donghae Open" was established in 1981 by Korean golf enthusiasts in Japan to promote the development of Korean golf, foster international players, and promote sports exchanges between Japan and Korea.
It is now considered Korea's leading men's professional golf tournament.
This year, the KPGA Tour, the Asia Tour, and the Japan Golf Tour (JGTO)
A total of 138 players from 12 countries, including Japan, Canada, and the US, will gather to compete for the title of Asia's best golfer. The JGTO's flagship player improved his lead by 7 strokes in the final round of last year's tournament, finishing 11th in the final round.
Ryo Ishikawa (32) tied for 1st place. He is on the verge of reaching 20 JGTO wins, and in June of this year, he added another win at the JGTO Japan Players Championship, bringing his total to 19th place.
Ishikawa is a Japanese golfer who was the youngest JGTO winner at the age of 18 and reached 29th in the world rankings in 2009.
Kazutaka Higa (29), the winner of the 38th tournament, the Shinhan Donghae Open 2022, is also a dark horse to watch among Japanese players.
Takashi Ogiso, who won the Hana Bank Invitational held in Seoul, will be aiming for his second consecutive victory in Korea. Last year's runner-up, Patchara Kongwatmai (25/Thailand), will be representing the Asian Tour.
Will he be able to grab the victory he narrowly missed out on in the first hole of the playoff against Goh Geun-Taek, who is 30th in the JGTO prize money rankings (as of September 5, 2024) this year?
In particular, this tournament is the first major tournament to be held in the second half of the year, and Zhang Yubin, who is currently one of the two strongest players competing for the Genesis Points and the prize money title on the KPGA Tour, will be the main focus.
The battle between Kim Min-Gyu (22, Shinhan Financial Group) and Kim Min-Gyu (23, CJ) is expected to be the biggest attraction.
Two players who mainly play on the international tours were also on the list.
Kim Seon Hyeong (25) and Song Young Han (33), who are the main performers of TO, said that their determination was greater than that of other performers, as the tournament is sponsored by their sponsor, Shinhan Financial Group.
It is believed that the player is different. Last year, he won the Sansan KBC Augusta for the first time in seven years, and this year he is ranked 19th in the JGTO prize money rankings (as of September 5, 2024).
Ng Young-han also placed second at the Kolon Korea Open in June, so good results are expected in this tournament as well.
