While participating in a demonstration to denounce the Japan-Korea summit in South Korea, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPRK) staged a surprise demonstration by climbing up the bronze statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a Korean hero who fought against Toyotomi Hideyoshi's army, at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul.
According to police on the 6th, the Jongno Police Station in Seoul arrested two members of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions who were holding a rally at Gwanghwamun Square in Jongno-gu around 7pm that day for arranging a demonstration.
He was arrested on the spot for allegedly violating the law regarding the prohibition of public demonstrations. He is accused of leaving the declared location of the demonstration and climbing onto the bronze statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin to stage a surprise demonstration.
Civic groups such as the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Japan-Korea Historical Justice and Peace Action will be holding demonstrations in the vicinity of the Presidential Office in Yongsan from the morning of the same day.
They continued to hold rallies in opposition to Prime Minister Kishida's visit to South Korea and the Japan-South Korea summit meeting.
