Democratic Party of Korea: ”Kim Kun-hee's wife's shameless activities rekindle public sentiment” - South Korea
On the 16th, the Democratic Party of Korea, in a statement to the National Assembly, stated, "Kim Gun-Hee's shameless resumption of her activities, despite the harsh public scrutiny, is fueling the boiling public sentiment."
Cho Seung-rae, chief spokesman for the Democratic Party, said in the afternoon, "The public sentiment for this mid-autumn celebration (Chuseok) is that the people are in favor of Yoon Seok-hee.
In a written briefing titled, "Please bear in mind that this is my final warning to President and First Lady Yeol," he said, "The people are being mocked by the spectacle that the President and First Lady put on even at the mid-autumn celebration.
"Even though it's supposed to be a relaxed mid-autumn celebration, the public is feeling suffocated and anxious. People are hesitant to go shopping because of soaring prices,
"In the midst of the first medical crisis, 'I will never get sick' has become the phrase exchanged at mid-autumn celebrations," he said. "The president's approval rating has fallen to its lowest since he took office, reflecting the harsh public sentiment.
Some have even said that the public's trust in the president, the government and the ruling party has completely collapsed." Realmeter also reported that President Yoon's approval rating hit its lowest point since he took office that day.
The survey, conducted by Realmeter at the request of the Energy Economic Newspaper, was conducted from the 9th to the 13th among 2,503 voters nationwide aged 18 and over. The survey revealed that 100% of voters approved of President Yoon's handling of national affairs.
The rating was 27.0%, down 2.9 percentage points from the previous survey released a week ago, and lower than the previous weekly low of 29.3% in August 2022.
"It's only natural considering President Yoon has ruined people's lives with his incompetent governance and caused a medical disaster with his self-righteousness and lack of communication, yet shows no remorse. Even so, the president has been refusing to accept the situation for himself and his family," Cho said.
"The government has been fighting public opinion by vetoing the appointment of special prosecutors for Corporal Choi and Kim Kun-hee, who were both accused of slander.
"If, even in this situation, he continues to take a stubborn stance, saying, 'We don't care about approval ratings,' or 'We'll leave it to history's judgment,' then public anger will explode," he warned.
He added, "I hope that President Yoon will use this mid-autumn celebration as a time to humbly listen to the will of the people. The president's failure must not become the failure of the Republic of Korea.
The people's sentiment is the last warning the people can send to President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife Kim Kun-hee, so they should keep this in mind."
The survey was conducted using wireless (97%) and wired (3%) automated answering systems, with randomized telephone calls made via a randomized sample.
