In an interview for the Coupang PLAY series ‘What Comes After Love’ held at a café in Seoul's Jongno-gu on the morning of the 19th September, Lee Se-yeon stated that "on set, even the male staff would smile when they saw Kentaro Sakaguchi" and that "everyone liked him."
Kentaro Sakaguchi is a particularly popular actor in South Korea. When Lee Se-yeon was asked why (Kentaro Sakaguchi) is so popular in South Korea, she replied, "Handsome looks are essential," which made her laugh.
She continued, "Melancholy eyes. And especially the actors have a sparkling, vibrant appearance. Even those who don't communicate well and don't interact with each other have an energetic and boyish appearance in their areas of passion, which is attractive. They are like Peter Pan, mature but never lose their purity, and they seem to have that kind of charm."
Lee Se-yeon said that she had watched the work of Kentaro Sakaguchi, with whom she was to share breathing space in ‘What Comes After Love’, and added: ‘I had seen some of his previous works, but while preparing (for this film), I watched “10 Years to Live” to see how Kentaro Sakaguchi would act. I cried when I saw it’.
Lee Se-yeon said "I felt that Kentaro Sakaguchi is very similar to me because he is cheerful and energetic on the set. I thought that if the two of us put in the effort, it would be lively."
Lee Se-yeon said, "When I talked to Kangna-san (Nakamura Anne), she said she had never seen such a kind actor" and thanked Kentaro Sakaguchi for "caring about [me] a lot."
Lee Se-yeon travelled back and forth between Japan and South Korea while filming ‘What Comes After Love’. Her performance in ‘Red Sleeve Tip’ was popular in Japan. When asked if she ever felt popular in Japan, she said she "went out really comfortably" and "wore plain clothes and looked around when I was off."
She said that she and Kentaro Sakaguchi spent time together just for the sake of romance and breathing together. "To get to know each other better, the three of us went out for dinner and drinks with the interpreter, but we also took a walk and went on a swing before going home. The interpreter was also with us at that time", she said. "I was also accompanied by an interpreter at that time, and the three of us signed a bottle of sake and kept it. I have to go to that restaurant again."
Lee Se-yeon, who tried her hand at Japanese through this production, said "I want to do Japanese productions too. I am not a newcomer in Korea, so the audience and viewers are familiar with me, but I will be able to take on various challenges without being confined to such a made-up image" and “In the play, Jungo was set to speak few words, so I spoke more Japanese than Kentaro Sakaguchi, but I got greedy”.
‘What Comes After Love’ is an emotional melodrama depicting the story of a woman ‘Hong’ who forgets everything after her doomed love ends, and a man ‘Jungo’ who is filled with regret. It will be released on Coupang PLAY at 8pm on the 27th of this month.
