The US state of Louisiana has allowed cryptocurrency payments for state government services, with the Wildlife and Fish Department making the first cryptocurrency payment.
"Louisiana residents can use Bitcoin, the Bitcoin Lightning Network, and the U.S. Dollar," Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming said in a statement on the 17th.
"You can make payments with any cryptocurrency wallet using USD Coin, a stablecoin linked to the blockchain."
The Louisiana government has announced that the state treasurer will use some cryptocurrencies to provide state government services.
The first crypto payment has already been made after the Louisiana Wildlife Service announced it would offer the option to pay for its services through the Bitcoin Lightning Network.
・The fine was paid to the Department of Fish and Game. Treasurer Fleming said, "Louisiana accepting cryptocurrency as payment is a step in the right direction for the state government and the Board of Trustees.
"This is the result of collaboration with Pay and our integration partners across the state, which will help reduce the number of fraudulent transactions."
He said, “In today’s digital age, government systems need to embrace new technologies and evolve. Introducing cryptocurrencies as a payment option will help us to
"We will not only innovate but also give citizens more flexibility and freedom in how they interact with state government services," he added.
However, Treasury Secretary Fleming said, "money received by the government will still be transacted in fiat currency, and the service will convert crypto payments into US dollars, making it difficult to accept crypto payments."
"This will protect state governments from existing concerns about the ability of states to make payments," he said.
