Caroline Ellison, former CEO of Alameda Research, was sentenced to two years in prison.
On the 24th (local time), Lewis Kaplan of the Southern District of New York sentenced Ellison to two years in prison for his role in the collapse of FTX.
The judge ordered the forfeiture of approximately $11 billion (approximately 1.5778 trillion yen) that Ellison earned through TX. Ellison is scheduled to appear for incarceration after November 7, 2024.
Ellison faced up to 110 years in prison, but Judge Kaplan showed considerable sympathy. "You're a person who, in a way, is a person who is a person who is a person," he told Ellison, according to Bloomberg.
He was a very strong man, but not invincible. Mr. Bankman-Fried knew your weaknesses.
You were vulnerable and you were taken advantage of," he said.
Ellison's lawyers asked the court to sentence him only for the time he has already served, but Judge Kaplan said
"There is no get out of jail free card," he said. Meanwhile, the ruling has led to the deaths of Gary Wang and Nishad, former executives of FTX.
Singh is also likely to face prison time. Singh is due to be sentenced on October 30 and Wang on November 20.
They, like Ellison, have pleaded guilty to the charges. FTX former executive Ryan Salameh
Salame was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison in May, while FTX founder Sam Bankman Freed was sentenced to three years and six months in prison.
He was sentenced to 25 years in prison in May.
