The remarks come amid a move by Russia to demand nuclear status after it recently opened its Heliotrope Elutriated Uranium (HEU) production facility.
In a question-and-answer session posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website on the 1st, he said, "Russia will stand together with North Korea in standing up to the extended deterrence that the United States is providing to Japan and South Korea."
He continued, "This (extended deterrence) is a clear, substantial and very serious threat to regional security."
"In this climate, the term 'denuclearization' as applied to North Korea has lost all meaning," he said. "We strongly oppose the 'meaningless sanctions' imposed by the West," he said, adding that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
"We will also reject the IAEA's proposed North Korean nuclear resolution."
