Spokesperson Hwang Jeong said in a written statement on the 28th, "Mrs. Kim denies the transactions that the court determined to be stock price manipulation. Public anger is spreading over her unreasonable brazenness."
According to the Democratic Party and legal circles, in July, Mrs. Kim was arrested by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's Anti-Corruption Division 2 for allegedly stealing stock accounts in her own name that were allegedly used to manipulate German Motors stock prices.
This is being interpreted as meaning that Mrs. Kim conducted her own transactions without the instructions or involvement of those responsible for manipulating stock prices regarding the accounts that the court stated were used for stock price manipulation.
"If Kim wasn't the first lady, she would have been arrested long ago and would be on trial along with her accomplices," Hwang said. "The prosecution has been unable to do anything because they consider the first lady to be a sanctuary."
He also strongly criticized the prosecution, saying, "The prosecution has abandoned even the minimum standards of fairness and neutrality and has fallen into the role of protecting the president and his wife. It has lost the right to talk about justice."
In addition to the allegations of stock price manipulation, the Democratic Party also plans to step up its offensive against allegations that Kim interfered in the nomination of the People Power Party during the general election.
"We plan to launch a fact-finding team or investigative committee on the 'monopoly of state affairs by Kim Jong Un'," he said. Hwang also said, "If President Yoon rejects the bill to appoint Kim Jong Un as special prosecutor to the end, we will have to send a message to the public.
A harsh trial by the Supreme Court awaits," he said, urging for the appointment of a special prosecutor.
