The murderer of the Suncheon high school girl is seen walking barefoot and smiling after the crime (South Korea)
A decision will be made on the 30th as to whether the identity of a man in his 30s who killed a high school girl walking down the street in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province, will be made public.
A video was released showing the man who was identified as the suspect walking barefoot and laughing after the crime. Today, YTN reported that at around 1 a.m. on the 26th, a man dressed in black clothes was seen walking barefoot in an alleyway near an elementary school in Suncheon.
The CCTV footage showed the man turning his head to the side and smiling. 13 minutes after Park (30) killed the high school girl, a girl he did not know, with a weapon, he was killed in a nearby area.
The scene was filmed at a bar. Internet users who saw the video were outraged, saying things like, "It gives me goosebumps," "He's crazy," "He shouldn't get a reduced sentence just because he drank alcohol," and "He should reveal his true identity soon."
Park, who was drunk and left the restaurant he was running with a weapon, is suspected of stabbing and killing a man named A (18) with the weapon on the roadside in Suncheon City at around 12:44 a.m. on the 26th.
After the crime, Park threw away the weapon and fled. He then wandered the streets and got into a fight with a passerby. He was arrested by police who responded to a call at around 3 a.m., about two hours and 20 minutes after the incident.
Park, who is reported to have a criminal record for violence, had been running a delivery restaurant for two months but had been drinking at the restaurant every day since it closed due to financial difficulties. On the day of the incident, he was seen walking around the streets in a drunk state.
It was reported that he followed A for about 800 meters as she walked before committing the crime. Immediately after the crime, Park, who was wandering the streets, entered a nearby beer hall barefoot and said, "I'm going to kill you."
"I had a terrible fight with my fiancee. I was angry and started drinking," he said. Park did not tell the police his exact motive for choosing Ms. A, whom he did not know, as his target.
Park attended a pre-arrest hearing (warrant review) held at the Suncheon branch of the Gwangju District Court on the 28th and claimed, "I had drunk about four bottles of soju (at the time of the incident) and have no memory of it."
Information about Park's identity has been circulating online. A steamed chicken restaurant reportedly operated by Park has been the subject of a series of "star rating terrorism" attacks, leading some internet users to question his identity.
They shared Park's name, photos, and social media accounts. The restaurant was cordoned off by police and some citizens protested by throwing raw eggs at it.
The Jeonnam Police Station will hold a personal information disclosure committee this afternoon to deliberate whether to release Park's personal information.
