President Yoon: ”North Korea's 'opening of nuclear facilities' is to attract attention”... ”Japan-Korea relations will continue to develop”
South Korean President Yun Seok-yeol said on the 6th that North Korea's disclosure of its nuclear facilities was likely an attempt to attract the attention of the United States and the international community ahead of next month's U.S. presidential election.
In an interview with the Associated Press ahead of his visit to the Philippines, Singapore and Laos, President Yoon said, "North Korea will continue to carry out nuclear tests and launch ICBMs (intercontinental ballistic missiles) and other measures.
President Yoon said, "At the recent ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit, we announced that 'We will continue to violate UN Security Council resolutions and international norms and will continue to destroy the Korean peninsula.'
This sends a clear message that the international community will not tolerate North Korea's reckless actions, which threaten peace on the islands, in the Indo-Pacific region, and even around the world.
"The denuclearization of North Korea is an essential prerequisite for building a free, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region," he said.
Regarding Japan-Korea relations, he said, "I believe that the newly elected Japanese prime minister and new cabinet will be able to continue to develop Korea-Japan relations."
