On the 7th, the Nonsan branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office reported that a man in his 50s, Defendant A, was arrested in June this year for rape resulting in injury and defamation of the deceased.
The suspect was arrested and indicted on charges of sexual assault on his senior's daughter, Ms. B, in her 20s, five times in November 2021 in Nonsan, Chungnam, South Korea, and then took her own life due to the shock.
Ms. B, who dreamed of becoming a flight attendant, was said to have been on friendly terms with Defendant A. After being sexually assaulted, Ms. B was so shocked that her cognitive abilities were at the level of a 4-year-old.
He did not recognize his parents, was unable to communicate with them, and muttered incomprehensible words with a blank look on his face. The psychiatric hospital said, "Due to extreme stress, his cognitive ability has dropped to the level of a four-year-old."
The judge diagnosed her as having regressed in her abilities. Meanwhile, on the day that Defendant A came to visit her at home, Ms. B suddenly started screaming loudly and showed abnormal symptoms.
B's mother said, "(Her daughter) yelled out loud. She yelled, 'Why are you doing this to me?' and stood on the balcony.
When her parents questioned her, Ms. B said that Defendant A had sexually assaulted her several times when she was taking driving practice for her driver's license, and had also molested her in her room a short time ago.
" The parents immediately reported Defendant A to the police. However, Defendant A maintained that he "did not force Ms. B to go to the motel or force her to have sex with him."
He also said, "It cannot be concluded that B's mental problems were his own fault," citing records that B had been receiving psychiatric treatment for a different matter for about a year prior to the incident.
A statement from B was required, but unfortunately, B passed away last August at the age of 24. After being discharged from the psychiatric hospital, her condition seemed to improve little by little, but in June last year,
In the same month, Ms. B happened to meet Defendant A at a supermarket. The horrific memories kept coming back to her and she continued to suffer, eventually taking her own life two months later in August of last year.
The prosecution identified the date, time and location of the crime through the analysis of B's cell phone diary and the video from his car's dashcam.
The testimony and footage of the psychological counselor that Ms. B met at the hospital were closely tracked. As a result, it was determined that Defendant A had used their intimate relationship to psychologically control Ms. B by "grooming" her several times.
The prosecution changed the charge against Defendant A, who was referred to the prosecution on suspicion of simple rape, to "rape resulting in injury," and filed charges against Ms. B for spreading false rumors.
The charges of defamation of the deceased and defamation of B's father were added to the trial. The crime of rape carries a prison sentence of at least three years, but the crime of rape resulting in injury carries a prison sentence of life imprisonment or at least five years.
The prison sentence will be heavier.
