NEO CITY: THE UNITY' was a five-month tour by “NCT 127” from November last year to March this year, touring eight Asian cities including Seoul, Nagoya, Jakarta, Bulacan, Bangkok, Macau, Osaka and Tokyo. NCT 127' showed the essence of a K-pop idol concert with sophisticated music, group dance and brilliant stage direction as represented by the keyword “NEO” in this tour, their third since their debut.
At the Seoul concert, which attracted an audience of more than 60,000 people in total, they overwhelmed the audience with a super-large LED screen and a stage in the shape of a triangle. The ballad section, which utilised a diamond-shaped lift stage, projection mapping and translucent screens to increase the fantastic atmosphere, was also well received.
The 11th eDaily Culture Awards‘ list of nominees in the concert category included NCT 127’s ‘NEO CITY: THE UNITY’, AKMUTOPIA by AKMU, IU's ‘HEREH’ and DAY6's “Welcome to the Show”.
The jury panel in the concert category applied the same criteria to all categories: besides workmanship, originality and development potential, box-office potential and global ripple effect were additional evaluation items to select the candidates and the best works. This reflects the characteristics of K-pop concerts, which focus on fan-friendly structure, staging and globalisation.
The jury members commented that the tour performances stood out for their ability to drive the popularity of K-pop beyond Korea and overseas, combining all the qualities of popularity and artistry amidst the maturation of the artists' unique colours and unity.
