German chemical giant Merck to open R&D center for semiconductor materials in South Korea - Korean media
Merck Korea, the Korean subsidiary of German chemical manufacturer Merck, has established the Korea SOD (Spin-on Dielectric) Application Center (KSAC) in Anseong, Gyeonggi-do.
The facility is the second of its kind in Asia, and was established to better serve demand in the region.
SOD is an insulator that fills the gap between metal wiring in semiconductors. It is used in artificial intelligence (AI) memory and logic semiconductors. The facility is working on silicon dioxide (SiO2) film.
The company owns state-of-the-art facilities for measuring and analyzing coated SOD materials and operates them as part of Merck's R&D network.
Merck has a broad portfolio of semiconductor materials, especially in thin-film technology.
In the field of technology, the company has made its presence felt in areas such as SOD, atomic layer deposition (ALD), and chemical vapor deposition (CVD).
Kai Beckmann, CEO of Merck's Electronics Division, said, "We are pleased to announce that we have opened an SOD
"The Applications Center will play a key role in helping us achieve our goal of leading innovation in the semiconductor industry."
